The Evocardio Walkdesk

Informations sur The Evocardio Walkdesk
The Evocardio Walkdesk™ has been specially designed for those who like to exercise more while working. A traditional office can easily be transformed into a walking desk with the treadmill and a console. We need to invest in our health and wellbeing and encourage better practice within our workforces. Treadmill desks are only the beginning of creating a more dynamic workplace.
Technological, economic and social changes have made many people to sit more than is healthy for the body. With the advent of tv, computers, video games and the desk job, we’re sitting down more than ever before in history. 9,5 hours a day, even more time than we spend sleeping (7,7 hours). Our bodies weren’t built for that, and it’s starting to take its toll. You might want to stand up for this.
We need to invest in our health and wellbeing and encourage better practice within our workforces. Treadmill desks are only the beginning of creating a more dynamic workplace. Even making small changes in the initial office design can encourage us to interact more with our surroundings and cut sitting time. We want to see a better balance between sitting and standing. Employers need to encourage more movement, and better wellbeing for their staff.
We do it every day, hours in a row. We get up and sit at the breakfast table, afterwards move to our car, so we can spend 8h sitting at our desk at work. After work we get back into our car to drive home and sit in front of the television. So what’s new? Sitting for long periods is dreadfully unhealthy! Every year about 5.3 million people die as a result of hour sedentary lifestyles. What’s so bad about sitting that it has such a big influence on our health? Mankind was made to move! Think of our ancestors: at first all humans were hunter-gatherers, constantly in motion. Afterwards we evolved to farmers who spent their days working in the field from dawn till dusk!
Walking can offer numerous health benefits to people of all ages and fitness levels. It may also help prevent certain diseases and even prolong your life.
When we sit, we use a lot less muscles than when we stand or move around. When we sit, our larger skeletal muscles (legs, back, behind) shut down, which has several negative influences on cellular processes in our muscles and tissues. It lowers LPL/HDL levels in our blood (cholesterol, responsible for transporting fats) and the decomposition of plasma triglycerides (fat) drops. The amount of fat burning enzymes in your blood can drop with up to 90% in 1 hour. This increases the risk of obesity and several cardio vascular diseases.
And that’s just the beginning! Research has shown that sitting for long periods of time increases the risk of heart diseases, type 2 diabetes, cancer, stroke, thrombosis, back complaints, obesity, metabolism-distortions, osteoporosis, depression, dementia,… So are we all a lost cause due to our sedentary lifestyle and far going automation? Luckily, no! There are numerous ways to break through our sedentary habits and to implement more movement into our lifestyles.
Every movement helps, getting up for a moment, stretching, walking around, anything! Ideally you should get up to move around every 20 minutes. One of the healthiest solutions is a Walkdesk™.
An extra plus, is that you burn a lot more calories while walking, so you can lose weight while working. Half an hour of (medium-)intense exercise can’t compensate the negative effects of sitting all day, but moving around more during the day isn’t a replacement for exercise either. It’s merely an addition to counter the negative effects of sitting for too long.
Too much sitting is bad for your health. That's true even if you're not overweight and exercise regularly, recent research suggests. Humans are meant to get up and move. Our high-quality products give you the freedom to exercise at your desk while working in your office or home. You’ll feel energized, focused, and healthy. When you feel healthy, it’s easier to eat right and to be motivated to exercise more.
The simple answer is that regular walking in place of sitting will be beneficial to your health. Human beings aren’t designed to be seated for long periods of time; in fact it’s very bad for us. Over the last 10 years changes to how we work mean office workers are becoming more sedentary. Email, less filing of papers and an increase in call centre type roles are all contributing to the problem. Taking into account sitting whilst commuting, eating and relaxing in the evenings can mean we spend just 5 hours per day on our feet.
Most of the tasks you do on your conventional desk can be done on a Walkdesk™. You start with he easiest tasks such as telephoning, Internet, participating in conference calls... Because your forearms rest on the desk, you stay centered and stable. Typing is difficult at the beginning but after 2-3 sessions it feels very natural. You can press the Pause button at any time and your Walkdesk™ becomes a stand-up desk.
Yes you can! Once you’ve found your ideal pace, the walking very quickly becomes secondary to the work you are doing. In fact, you may be surprised by the amount of distance you’ve covered before you even look down at the display.
Tests have shown that the Walkdesk™ can be used up to 10 hours a day. Parts such as engines, tires and bearings have been tested and will certainly not be a problem. But remember that it is your body that determines how long you walk. Start with 2 to 4 hours a day and build up slowly. If you walk 1 km / hour you walk about 3000 steps.
The Walkdesk™ is designed to be used in an office next to colleagues or just at home. Use The amount of decibels depends on the speed: 1 km/h corresponds to 47 dB, 2 km/h with 50.1 dB. The selection of the right shoes is also important. Much of the sound you will hear comes from the shoes you wear (high heels or shoes with hard soles), so you might want to ensure that you wear shoes that do not make an excessive clomping sound.
You won’t need to change your shoes at the lower speeds if fashion is a concern in your office and you will only be walking with the Walkdesk™ for a couple of hours a day. For home office workers or those planning to walk +2 hours a day we recommend using comfortable walking shoes or cross training shoes. Shoes with high heels or hard soles are not recommended.
As each person is different, we cannot advise your concerning. However we support the 10.000 steps-per-day recommendation of many organizations. If you walk 1 km in 1 hour you will walk 3000 steps. Studies show that someone who does not have an active lifestyle walks between 2.000 and 4.000 steps per day. If you walk 3 hours per day you get more than 10.000 steps.
You will find many interesting links of studies, press articles and several relevant topics on this page. We will definitely keep this page up to date.
